THE BEGINNING OF A TRIBE
The Ebo Tribe is a non-profit organization founded January 1st, 2007. While speaking to roughly 500 teens in Peachtree City, Georgia that new years eve, Ebo heard the call of God to leave boxing and enter into a new season focused on ministry and depending on God for every provision. Although this was not Ebo's plan, it was much better (Isaiah 55:8-9) and he began seeking the Lord for the perfect ministry name.
Immediately, Ebo Tribe began to resonate in his spirit and the ministry name was solidified. As God revealed the perfect name for the ministry he revealed his supernatural orchestration over the past 17 years. Ebo's birth name was Eben, named after the rock of Ebenezer found in the book of 1st Samuel. Through Eben's childhood his family realized that this name was not very memorable, easy to chant or good for sports.
Then one night, while racing motorcross in Calhoun, Georgia, Eben's name continued to be mispronounced by the track anouncer. Greg, Eben's father, approached him and told him to call Eben, Ebo. Seemingly, this new and very different name had come from subconsciously combining Eben and Bo, as in Bo Jackson. At this time Bo Jackson was very popular and the family began applying Ebo Knows Motocross and Ebo Knows Boxing to all of their promotional apparel just like Bo had done in baseball and football.
Several years later, while fighting in the USA National Championships, Ebo and his father were approached by a Nigerian referee who inquired to the origin of Ebo's name. After telling the man the story of renaming their son he began to joyfully tell the story of his ancestrial descent. In their amazment the Elder's learned that there was actually an Ebo Tribe, primarily from Nigeria.
The Ebo Tribe was originally brought to the Savannah, Georgia area to be sold into slavery. Two families from St. Simons Island bought the slaves and had them shipped to the island. When their boat, the Morovia, ported at dock the Ebo chief began chanting, "The sea brought me and the sea will bring me home." Immediately the entire tribe began the chant. Then, all chained together, while being lead to shore and into a lifetime of slavery, the tribe turned and marched into Dunbar Creek, drowning themselves. The original Ebo Tribe chose death over slavery and now, elite warriors in the Army of God and people of the Ebo Tribe, must choose death over slavery to the world. We must take up our cross and die to self, inheriting freedom in Christ and eternal life with the Father.
OUR MISSION
The mission of the Ebo Tribe is to educate, inspire and encourage people of all races, economic backgrounds, and cultures to live the life of purpose and power they were created to live. This life is found through the teachings of Jesus Christ, and is available to anyone who accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior.
The message of Jesus Christ is being spread by the Ebo Tribe in a number of ways. Our focus is reaching our nation's youth and young adults with the uncompromising Word of God. We are ministering weekly in public schools, colleges, youth detention centers and prisons and are partering consistently with organizations such as All Things Possible Ministries and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). We are also heavily involved in ministry at churches, youth conventions and men's conferences. Through evangelism and discipleship we are seeing countless youth and adults come to the Lord and grow into mature disciples of Jesus Christ.
Throughout 2008 the Ebo Tribe felt the leading of the Holy Spirit to start a home Bible study in Senoia, Georgia. On December 23, Ebo's 30th birthday, we began the first of these studies, called BrickHouse. On January 12, 2010 BrickHouse was moved to Speed Sports Performance in Peachtree City, Georgia. Our primary focus and mission at BrickHouse is seeing the junior high, high school and college age students of our local community grow and mature into true disciples of Jesus Christ. This is accomplished by focusing on the four fundamental practices of the early church found in Acts 2:42. We teach the Bible, pray together, break bread and enjoy fellowship with one another. We also enjoy worshiping the Lord and serving our community together.
On June 1, 2010 the Lord led us to move our family and BrickHouse Student Ministries to Warner Robins, Georgia and begin serving as student pastor and assistant pastor at Calvary Chapel Heartland. Under the leadership of Pastor Steve Sandoval we now have the opportunity and platform to evangelize and disciple junior high, high school, college age and young adults on a daily basis, with resources that were previously unavailable to us. We now have a teem of servants committed to reaching the lost in central Georgia and beyond.
With a God given vision and an unstoppable passion we are dedicated to showing the message of Jesus Christ to the world and enabling men, women, boys and girls to acheive their full potential and equipping them to live life abundantly. We belive that a relationship with the creator results in a more confident and capable person, that does not live by their emotions, but by a firm foundation in the Word of God. We also believe that this type of person can not only endure adversity, but thrive in the midst of tragedy and trials (Proverbs 24:16). Our hope is that all people would come to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior and make spreading his message of faith, hope and love their priority.
